We conducted our 2nd investigation at a private home in Salem, NH. A house existed prior to the current home. It burned in 1757. The house and the barn now standing are structures from the 1800’s. There has been a long history of residency in this home. So many energies have passed through this dwelling. The family had been doing quite a bit of renovating in this beautiful older home. It seemed that the Spirits that remain in the home are pleased with the renovations save one unresolved renovation that remains an issue for one Spirit of a woman. This is the hidden stairway in the home that remains closed off. There seems to be a strong emotional connection the woman has to this staircase and this is the reason she wants it to be reopened.

Joining us on our Investigation was our good friends John Lord, a psychic medium extraordinaire, and our webmaster Man Behind the Curtain. John’s first impression when he entered the house was that someone was unhappy about the structural changes. He went immediately to the basement without any knowledge that there was a basement. He said that he was drawn there. He somehow knew that the only way to see what changes had been made since the house was built was by looking in the basement. When he reached the basement, he went right to the underside of the hidden stairway. He was told that this was the focal point of the unhappiness. Someone used to use this stairway and was upset that it was closed off. There were, according to John, many happy memories of events that happened on this staircase.

He went back to the basement to take some pictures with his digital camera. On the video there is a lot of dust floating around. He recounts the first time he knew he had a gift. Now when he comes upon a scene, he first tries to clear his mind of his own thoughts. He explains this gift as if water was flowing from his body onto the floor and it starts to spread out. With his mind clear, he listens to his inner voice. While he was in the kitchen, he used this method of flowing and he was told that he would find out why the voice was unhappy if he went into the basement.

John confirmed that the unhappy person is female. He suggests that the homeowners find out about the original layout of the house to see what changes were made before they moved in. John senses that the woman has been upset for a long time. The reason why she stays here is this is where she was the happiest. He also believes that her mate died here. One interesting statement that John made was that this strong female presence is protecting something hidden within the house. The owners wonder if there is something buried somewhere that she is protecting or if it is the hidden staircase itself and the memories she is protecting. This could be the reason why she is desperate to have it opened. There is more than one spirit in the house. The others are being quiet because they know she is upset. John believes that this woman is dominant. Mike captured an interesting image in reflective photography of a proud woman dressed in a dark fur coat and hat. Could this be our dominant female Spirit?

During our time in the barn, there is a mist that comes in over the camera. This could be breath. As we moved around there is also some dust being disturbed. I noticed that my camera battery went down to about half power and John’s camera was off. I told John about the staircase going up to a loft. At this point my battery went back up to full power. John tells us another story about a house he was working in. He was in the basement with the broken water pipes. Ghosts were the furthest thing from his mind while he was cutting pipes. But they are drawn to him for resolution and unfinished business whether he likes it or not. They know they can come to him. It is not always the easiest gift to possess. John also believes there was a strong connection between a man and a woman in the barn. When Karen asked the question in the loft of the barn, “Can you tell us your name,” a stern EVP was received saying “It’s not your business!” We were told we could proceed up to the loft but to be careful going up the steps. Here we received an EVP saying “Get the ladder.”

John said he wanted to go up in the loft but was being told to stay out. John moved away and I kept the camera pointed up the stairs. I was watching both the video screen and the staircase, real-time, when I noticed things flying around. These were only on camera. I could not see anything reflected in the light in real-time. I had John come over to see the same thing I saw. The EVP mentioned previously relating to things not being our business corroborates John’s assumption regarding the loft as unwelcome to us. John continues his story. He said that he keeps hearing someone crying. This is when I see more pronounced movement in the camera lens. John keeps on with his story and he says that he saw a little girl with blond hair on the stairs crying into her hands saying “I want my mommy.” John thinks that there may have been some domestic violence in the house that the girl witnessed or may have been involved in.

The next scene is with Karen in Mary’s bedroom. John feels a lot of anxiety in this room. John asks if this was a girl’s bedroom. This is the room with the window where an image of a girl had been captured. John reveals that someone was messing with this little girl. I asked Karen to inquire about Blanche. There are several particles of dust floating around (they’re all moving in the same direction). We found John near the master bedroom. He said that he just had to get out of there citing intense anger. He also said that if she (Mary) could have killed him (?) she would have. John feels there was some kind of molestation going on with Mary. We asked if there was a Spirit there named Blanche. Then Karen asked if her name was Helen. Although neither of those names was confirmed via EVP the name Jeff Hunter appeared on the recorder and this could lead us to a connection.

At this point in the investigation, we came across the master bedroom. The door was closed and locked. The owner said she closed the door to keep out errant light for Mike’s reflective photography. We had to pick the lock to get in. Mike thought there was another way in, but there isn’t. I examined the lock. It is a push button lock. It can only be locked if the button is depressed below the surface of the knob. That way it cannot be accidentally locked by brushing your hand against it. The owners didn’t even know there was a lock on the door. This phenomenon was thought by the owner to have been the action of the little girl Mary. She believes that Mary see’s her as a Mother figure because she always wanted a daughter and Mary senses this emotional connection. I mentioned that my compass kept moving around and we discovered that the equipment we were using generates a small magnetic field, mostly from the display screens. Karen moved into the son’s bedroom and listened to her recording from Mary’s room and discovered that Mary answered her in a whisper like EVP saying “Mary sings.” Mike captured a phenomenal image in his reflective photography of what appears to be a little girl with a hat on holding, in front of her, a white toy duck.

Later the owner came back and was amazed that the door was locked. She explained that she had never left the house while an investigation was going on. While looking at the lock on the master bedroom door, something much larger that dust went by the camera. I tried to follow it out of frame, but it disappeared. While we were in the kitchen, we heard several knocks on the glass slider that seemed to be coming from the outside. At this point, Karen felt a swoosh of cold air pass by her leg. We went into the basement one more time. We started to go down, but everyone else stopped. I wasn’t going down there alone, so I shot from the top of the stairs. Under the hidden staircase, Karen was asking if the spirit wanted the staircase opened back up. There was a lot of dust, all moving in the same basic direction, until one large circle of light started to hover around Karen and then seemed to stroked her hair. This movement was contrary to all the other particles in the air.

Once again this residence left us with impressive evidence of paranormal activity but still there are unanswered questions and we are bound to be back to find out.
